We made it to Friday friends, and it’s time for our weekly Friday Night Cocktail Toast at the Henderson’s. Along with thousands of other people in the country, we planted our garden this week. I say it like it’s some sort of annual event for us, but the reality is, this is the first one we’ve done together since we joined forces nearly 12 years ago. Both of us come from good farm stock, and growing things is just in our blood. That’s probably why we take it so seriously, and never wanted to commit to one unless we felt we could really do it right. Gardens are an investment of your time, energy and well, pride. Neither of us wanted to jump into something that might end up dried up and worthless, especially something as public as a garden! Funny isn’t it? We live in a land where growing food is a ‘hobby’ and a conversation piece. How different from so much of the rest of the world where seed for rice or corn is a valuable item and the harvest may feast or famine for your community. We are thinking about our good fortune tonight as we toast with a drink highlighted by the fruits of the land, Blackberry Brambles. These are fruits that don’t need human intervention to prosper, they only need to find good earth. So we toast to the Gardens of our Earth, those human made, those for fun, those for sustenance and those of nature. Find one to enjoy this weekend. CHEERS FRIENDS!
