Hello
there Friends. It’s time for another
Friday night cocktail hour with the Henderson’s. Like many of you, we have been following the
Olympics this past period of time. I’m
not certain what it is, but this Olympics seems to be much focused on
personalities vs. true athletic prowess.
Certainly, there always seems to be a ‘golden’ woman or man that rises
to the top of each Olympiad, but this time, it’s a new flavor every day. The stories have no staying power, because
they live in the fleeting space of electronic media – FB, Twitter, Tumblr,
whatever…. We used to huddle around the tube and cheer on our darling or our
country, and now, we get an alert on our Smartphone that tells us who won, when
and what notable feat was attached to it.
Who cares who will be on the
Wheaties box. We want to know who topped the Google rankings and why. They will probably have to do something
awkward or crazy to get that distinction.
Have we
lost the spirit of what makes up a true Olympian? Damn, I really hope not. Because it’s that force of determination and commitment
that gave the Greeks the idea to have this event in the first place. Olympians
were those who strived to be like the gods.
They had to have a superhuman ability that was toned and trained to
explode on that one day they called upon it.
So
tonight, we toast to the Olympic spirit, and the humans who ignore their
terrible imperfections to embody it. We
will weed through the tabloid and twitter garbage to find it. We will see it in the eyes, and celebrate it
loudly. We are drinking “Olympic
Cocktails” to honor true Olympians.
CHEERS FRIENDS!!
