Oh the humanity...

It's Friday night, and we are really ready for a cocktail at the Henderson's, how about you?  This has been a more heartbreaking and austere week than usual.  It began with the commemoration of 9-11 with Patriot Day.  We watched all of the replay and memories with tear-filled eyes. Then, it was topped off with a horrific act of terror against innocent public servants in Libya.  The entire week, we are also involved in what appears to be an incredibly divisive election season that has us all raising our voices a notch at the Media. This week has caused me several times to stop and exclaim verbally and mindfully, "Oh the humanity!"  Humanity is the quality or condition of human nature according to Mr. Webster.  I found myself sincerely appalled at the condition several times this week - in sadness and in disgust.  And yet, we have to find some path, some stretch of imagination, that will allow us to carry on within the humanity that we are a part of.  Because in the end, beneath all of our layers of skin, bone structure, size, religion, political bent and language, there is red blood running through all of our human veins.  We are all the same when reduced to rubble.  It's time we all became more invested in finding the ways we are alike vs. the ways we are different. In my humble opinion, this is the only way we can improve the state of humanity.
Tonight, we are drinking something I call Basic Human.  It's really just a Black or White Caucasian with Cherry Vodka to represent the blood.  So here's to Humanity in a better condition soon - CHEERS FRIENDS!

Recipe for Basic Human
Over a glass filled with ice, add:
1 oz of Cherry Vodka
1 oz of Kahlua
Add Half and Half for the White, none for the Black.
Garnish with a cherry.
