It's Friday, and time for another Friday Night Thought Tale Hour with the Hendersons. This week, as we entered into December, I had many thoughts swirling around my head. What a helluva year. "Never have I ever," as the game goes, imagined we'd be sitting here at the end of 2020. Literally, sitting. So much sitting and so much looking around and wondering what the heck just happened... From Impeachment to COVID, to Quarantine, to the Election - nothing has been of the nature of what we know. It has produced some opportunities, and I think a significant thing has been the time we have been given to look inside. To proportionately value what is vital to us and to weight out what we might want to discard. But through it all, and within it all, I have had to know more than ever that I can't look outside of myself for direction and help. I gotta know it from within.
Cuz kinda like Neo, We are all the 'Ones'...
Remember that part in the Matrix when Neo goes and visits the Oracle? He's been told that he might be "The One," who is determined to be the entity that will save humankind from the evil machines. She had many great and powerful things to say, and Neo was so wrapped up in the logistics that he kind of missed the message during their first visit. As I considered 2021, and how on January 1st, I will turn 61, I saw whole lotta ones in my future. Unlike Neo, I rarely have to be taught things twice - a lesson learned in childhood at the end of a belt. So here are some of The Oracle's most solid statements and how I think we can all apply them to our lives.
"You Got The Gift, But It Looks Like You're Waiting For Something."
With this downer of a line, it seems that she's only hindering Neo by shooting down any notion that he might be "The One." Yet, in a roundabout way, she is coaxing him to strive for greatness in the way that best suits him. It's really a challenge of sorts. Are you sitting around waiting for some sign or added value that tells you to expand upon a gift you know you have? What ARE you waiting for? And P.S., you are no longer able to use a pandemic as your excuse. If this thing has done anything, it has opened up our barriers to getting our talents and gifts out there. Ever heard of something called the worldwide web?
"You Just Have To Make Up Your Own Damn Mind..."
This blunt statement to Neo, which is in response to his uncertainty in trusting the Oracle. Given the circumstances and the concepts The Oracle is trying to sell, it would indeed be tough to convince anyone of her legitimacy. Thus, she opts to be about as trustworthy as she can by simply imploring him to "believe whatever you want to believe." Have you considered how many times you've been validated regarding your gifts or what you know you are meant to achieve in this life? Who is in the way besides yourself?
"Know Thyself."
We spend a lot of time in our human existence reassuring each other at our costumes of identity are on straight. Jung said that an identity crisis is a moment we realize it is just too much work to keep that person who we really are hidden. We see our true identity, and we get super tired of hiding it every day. You might have had some really interesting thoughts this year. In other years, you might have considered them to be a little wacky. But perhaps this year, amidst all of the upheaval and well, matrix-like activity, you have taken a pause to get to know yourself better. You people who started wearing your jammies to meetings can't blame a change in procedures on that habit. It's the real you, and it's time to come to terms with that person.
You can't be the one you are meant to be without knowing the one you are...
So tonight, I've got a bottle of Pinot called "Educated Guess" for Chris and me to enjoy. I would love to tell you that you will always know without a shadow of a doubt what your next move should be, but like The Oracle, I also know the world around us is constantly changing. We can often make an educated guess, but it's better than shooting in the dark. Take your shot in the light. Cheers.
